Responsibilities

The Embedded Linux Engineer works with embedded systems, and the external systems that interface with them. The engineer must be able to understand requirements, interact with other members of the technical staff, perform software design, software and interface engineering documentation, and design reviews. The engineer must understand the overall engineering process, from design kick-off to production; and, must be capable of interacting with the various disciplines (e.g., systems, electrical, mechanical, test) involved in production of a product. The engineer should be familiar with test equipment and procedures, including the use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers. The engineer is responsible for system-level and detailed software design and development.

Qualifications

  • TS/SCI Clearance with w/polygraph
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related / equivalent experience.
  • 10 years of embedded engineering experience.
  • Essential knowledge includes system and function-level software design fundamentals, microprocessor/microcontroller software design and development, ‘C++’ and ‘C’ programming, embedded systems firmware development, real-time operating systems (RTOS) programming, embedded Linux, hardware interfacing (i.e., device drivers), and multi-tasking software design.
  • Familiarity with common bus protocols (UART, SPI, I2C) and network protocols (TCP, UDP) is desirable. MS-Windows and Unix/Linux applications, Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC), and scripting languages (e.g., Python, shell) are helpful.
  • Experience in reverse engineering of embedded firmware is desirable, but not necessary.
  • The engineer must be capable of interacting with customers, management, and technical staff. A senior engineer is expected to provide advice and guidance to entry-level members of the development staff.
